What is Sport Psychology?Sport Psychology is a specialised and accredited field of psychology that focuses on understanding how mental, emotional and behavioural factors influence athletic performance and overall well-being. It combines principles of psychology with sports science to help individuals improve their mindset, enhance performance, and achieve their goals in sport.
-
What is Exercise Psychology?Exercise psychology is an accredited branch of psychology that explores the mental, emotional, and behavioral aspects of physical activity, fitness, and overall well-being. It focuses on the relationship between exercise and mental health—highlighting benefits such as improved mood, reduced stress, and enhanced self-esteem—while also addressing ways to overcome barriers, helping people stay active, healthy, and happy.
-
What is Performance Psychology?Performance psychology is a broader area of psychology that examines the mental, emotional, and behavioural factors that impact an individual or team's ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations. It focuses on enhancing skills such as focus, confidence, resilience, and stress management to optimise performance and wellbeing in business and other high-performing environments.
-
Who should I go to for Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology?Sport & Exercise Psychology are both accredited disciplines, meaning to legally and safely practice, an individual should have a minimum of stage 1 accreditation in each field. If you wouldn't seek medical treatment from someone who isn't a doctor, never undertake sport or exercise psychology services from an unqualified individual! Performance Psychology is not an accredited discipline, however it is important to ensure your psychologist has a scientific foundation to their practice, sufficient psychology qualifications and is trained in both performance enhancement and wellbeing techniques.
-
What does the first individual session look like? After your free consultation, you will be matched with the practitioner who's expertise are best suited to your needs. You can then spend the first session getting to know each other, asking any questions you may have and going through a detailed consultation to ensure you get the best out of the service. You'll then make a plan to move forward with and arrange your appointments at a time that is convenient for you.
-
What happens during individual sessions, are they like therapy? Our practitioners are trained in a range of techniques and adopt an integrated approach which allows you to receive exactly what you need. This could include talking psychotherapy, the practice of techniques scientifically proven to enhance performance and wellbeing, such as goal setting, core value mapping, and visualisation, or simply seeking advice and support on an area you wish to develop in. With our guidance, you have the power to discover what works for you and unlock your full potential!
-
Is this service suitable for my child?Absolutely! We have practitioners who have experience working with a variety of different young people across private and educational settings. We also have resources and activities tailored to young people, making sure everyone receives the support that is right for them. All of our practitioners also hold an advanced DBS/PGV check which is routinely updated.
-
Where do your services take place? With individual sessions, appointments are generally held online using a digital platform, as this allows maximum flexibility to find a time which is convenient for you while allowing you to be relaxed in your own home. We have also introduced an option for active sessions where appropriate, allowing us to meet in-person while getting some fresh air and light exercise. With other services such as workshops, consultancy, observations, and presentations, our practitioners can also travel to your location and deliver in-person. This allows for a more interactive experience when working with larger groups or providing services which benefit from an in-person approach.
